Abstract
Infrarenal abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) disease is a significant cause of mortality in the United States, accounting for over 15,000 deaths annually (Minino et al. 2002). Following FDA approval of commercial stent-graft systems for aortic repair in 1999, a significant proportion of infrarenal AAAs have been repaired using stent-grafts. Despite the popularity of endoluminal repair, traditional open repair remains the gold standard against which all other approaches must be compared.
