Der hypertensive Notfall ist definiert durch eine Erhöhung des systolischen Blutdrucks >220 mmHg und/oder des diastolischen Blutdrucks > 120 mmHg. Diese klinische Situation ist potentiell lebensbedrohlich und bedarf einer raschen Diagnostik sowie einer effektiven Therapie, um bereits vorhandene Organschäden zu limitieren bzw. um deren Entstehung zu verhindern. Grundsätzlich sind hypertensive Notfälle in solche mit Organmanifestation und solche ohne Organmanifestation einzuteilen.
