Definition
Congenital hypertrophy of the retinal pigment epithelia (CHRPE) are pigmented lesions of the retinal epithelium. These patches result from an increased content of melanin granules within enlarged retinal pigment epithelial cells. The majority of FAP patients (75–80%) have CHRPEs.
