Zusammenfassung

Die ADHS, die gekennzeichnet ist durch eine situationsübergreifende Störung der Aufmerksamkeit und der Impulskontrolle sowie durch motorische Hyperaktivität, desorganisiertes Verhalten und eine Störung der Affektkontrolle galt lange Zeit als eine Erkrankung des Kindes- und Jugendalters. Die Pr ä valenz für diese Altersgruppe wird anhand einer US-Untersuchung an einer repräsentativen Bevölkerungsstichprobe mit 7% angegeben (Bloom u. Dey 2006). Daten aus Langzeitverlaufsstudien, in denen Kinder mit ADHS bis ins Erwachsenenalter beobachtet wurden, konnten zeigen, dass bei einem Teil der betroffenen Kinder die Symptomatik auch im Erwachsenenalter weiter besteht (Mannuzza et al. 1998). ADHS wird daher zunehmend verstanden als eine chronische, lebenslange Störung.
