Zusammenfassung
Die menschliche Fähigkeit zu erzählen und Erzähltes zu verstehen – sei es Realweltliches oder Literarisches, Faktisches oder Fiktionales – beruht auf einer Vielzahl kognitiver Voraussetzungen, die den kulturhistorischen Variantenreichtum des Wie und des Was des Erzählens ermöglichen. Aus der Perspektive anthropologischer, biopoetischer und kognitiver Ansätze erklärt sich das Sosein von Erzählungen und ihren Wirkungsweisen nicht allein aus kulturhistorischen Konstellationen, sondern ist mitbedingt durch evolutionär funktionale Gesetzmäßigkeiten der menschlichen Kognition. Im Rahmen der Grundannahme einer »biokulturellen Zweistämmigkeit« (Eibl 1995, 16) von Kunst fokussiert die Kognitive Literaturwissenschaft auf kognitive Aspekte von Literaturproduktion und Rezeption im weitesten Sinne, wobei sich speziell die Kognitive Narratologie in gattungsspezifischer Engführung zum Ziel gesetzt hat, das Verhältnis von Kognition und Erzählen in den Blick zu nehmen. Der cognitive turn wirkt sich in der Narratologie dahingehend aus, dass Wissen über Kognition für die Erklärung, Beschreibung und Interpretation formalstruktureller und inhaltlicher Aspekte des Narrativen fruchtbar gemacht wird und zur Rekonzepualisierung narratologischer Kategorien wie Erzählperspektive, Plot, Figur u. a. beiträgt. Die folgende Darstellung konzentriert sich darauf, zentrale kognitive Gesetzmäßigkeiten vorzustellen, die Erzählen und Erzählung bedingen.
