Zusammenfassung

In der psychologischen Altersliteratur finden sich eine Vielzahl von Beiträgen mit dem Titel ›Alter und [...]‹ oder ›[...] im Alter‹. Für ›[...]‹ lässt sich dabei fast Beliebiges einsetzen: Gesundheit, Gedächtnis, Persönlichkeit, soziale Beziehungen, Freizeit- oder Risikoverhalten – möglicherweise finden sich auch in diesem Handbuch einige Kapitel mit solchen Überschriften. Trotz des eigentlichen Mangels an inhaltlicher Spezifikation der Verbindungsworte ›und‹ oder ›im‹ weckt ein solcher Titel doch implizit eine bestimmte Erwartung: In fast schon selbstverständlicher Weise gehen die Autoren – und wohl auch Rezipienten – solcher Beiträge davon aus, dass es hier um altersbedingte Veränderungen geht, die dann typischerweise auch den Fokus eines solchen Beitrags bilden. Es geht darum, diese altersbedingten Veränderungen zu identifizieren, zu beschreiben, zu systematisieren und zu erklären. Altern wäre doch nicht Altern, wenn es nicht von einer Reihe – meist negativer – Veränderungen begleitet würde. Nun also ein Kapitel als weiterer Beitrag dieser Art, diesmal zum Thema Emotion im Alter. Wie schon andere Beiträge weckt er wahrscheinlich allein schon durch den Titel die Erwartung, dass es um Veränderungen in der Gefühlswelt älterer Menschen gehen wird.
