Max Webers Studie Zur Psychophysik der industriellen Arbeit muss vor dem Hintergrund der 1907/08 im Verein für Socialpolitik von Heinrich Herkner und Alfred Weber initiierten Erhebungen über Auslese und Anpassung der Arbeiterschaft der Großindustrie gelesen werden (vgl. MWG I/11, 1–59 und 150–161; Kaesler 1979, 66 ff.; Schmidt 1980).
