Z — das frühere Nord-Rhodesien — erlangte 1964 die Unabhängigkeit. Es ist heute eine Präsidialrepublik mit Nationalversammlung. Ideologisch versteht sich der Staat als „partizipatorische Einparteiendemokratie“ auf der Basis eines humanitären und kooperativen Sozialismus. Staatspartei ist die United National Independence Party (UNIP) unter Staatspräsident Kenneth Kaunda (seit 1964).
