Zusammenfassung
Massenmediale Events und Großkonzerte sind wiederholt als Bühne und Instrument politischen Protests genutzt worden. Dies hat zwei naheliegende Gründe. Zum einen verschaffen diese Medienveranstaltungen den betreffenden Themen und Forderungen eine breite Öffentlichkeit. Zum anderen haben diese Events politische Mobilisierung, hier insbesondere Spendenakquise oder Mitgliederrekrutierung, zu einem großangelegten Spektakel gemacht. Zweifellos haben die voranschreitende internationale Integration und Konzentration der Mediensysteme sowie die zunehmende Verschränkung von Nachrichten- und Unterhaltungsformaten zum sogenannten „infotainment“ (Bagdikian 1990; Reeves 1993; Altheide/Snow 1991) diese spezifische Form massenmedialer Protestereignisse erst möglich gemacht.
