Definitions
Inequality is the difference between people and groups of people based on social status, wealth, or opportunity (Collins; Cambridge Dictionary). Carter and Reardon (2014) highlight four key domains: socioeconomic, health, political, and cultural as the ecology of inequality. Neckerman (2004) identifies factors such as family and neighborhood, education and work, health, political participating, and the formation of public policy as dimensions of social inequality. Economic inequality is considered to be affecting many other inequalities. In studies conducted by Neckerman (2004) at different locations in the world with the support of many scholars, it has been noticed that there is a rising correlation of economic conditions or wealth and social status of people. “Reading about global inequality is nothing less than reading about the economic history of the world” (Milanovic 2016, 3).
