Definition

A useful definition of sustainable water resources means identifying a management framework that ensures dependable water resources in both quantity and quality for multiple generations (Loucks 2000). This ideal management goal requires explicitly including strategies to protect biophysical processes directly related to the water itself, for example, aquifer recharge, and also strategies to protect water-dependent organisms that contribute to the self-sufficiency of local communities, for example, fisheries, shellfish.
