Abstract
Defining me is a poem about how I walked past old expectations and personal standards set by my pre-ill self, redefining the ‘new me’. The ongoing struggle, living with daily challenges and the unseen impact it has on every aspect of my life. Dealing with multiple layers be it physical, emotional, cultural, spiritual, social, political, all at once. The battle within and what it is like to lose control of routine when the illness is overpowering me. It is about defying being defined by illness or disability and saying ‘I define me’.
