Abstract
The following chapter is a discussion of the definition of blank fiction and the work of James Annesley, the scholar who first coined the term. It also offers an exploration of how blank fiction differs so remarkably from the literary tradition from which it evolved, and an explication of the movement through a close analysis of one of its first novels: Jay McInerney’s Bright Lights, Big City.
