Abstract

The Ramón seed, also known as Ramon nut or locally as Ojite, Masica, Ojoche, Mojú, Ujuxte, Xoxte, Iximché, derives from the fruit of the Ramón tree (Brosimum alicastrum), which grows naturally throughout Mesoamerica. It is known as the “Tree of Life” for the nutritive properties of its seeds and its important role in forest ecosystems as a source of food for wildlife.
