Abstract

There are a variety of medicolegal systems that require IMEs. The foundation of the IME process is a well written professional medical report that serves as an expert opinion. Depending upon the system’s requirements, IME physicians may be asked to evaluate impairment, disability, causation, appropriateness of treatment, or employability. The IME physician must understand their role within each disability system and know the definitional requirements of each.
