Abstract
In the early autumn of 1694, Cassini, close to his seventies, set off on a long journey to Italy with his young son Jacques in order to determine the geographical coordinates of several towns in the peninsula and to restore in Bologna the meridian line in the church of San Petronio. He left behind for a few years in the Paris Observatory his nephew Giacomo Filippo Maraldi, later known as Jacques Phillipe Maraldi or Maraldi I.
