Abstract

This chapter develops the notion of the endo-prosthetic somatotype, which features the extension of the superhero’s organs, tissues, appendages, cells, or their objective correlatives into areas of diegetic space normally impossible to reach. This somatotype also describes the reintegration of these organs or their correlatives with the rest of the superhero’s flesh. Specifically, this chapter examines the endo-prosthetic abilities of Blade, Daredevil, Elektra, Thor, and Captain America across the starring vehicles, ensemble films, and Netflix series that showcase these Marvel characters.
