Abstract
Transoesophageal echocardiography (TEE) is used both as a diagnostic and monitoring tool. Information that can be obtained from TEE evaluation includes cardiac chamber size and function, valvular function, vascular disease and pericardial disease. Quantitative cardiac function including stroke volume, cardiac output, ejection fraction and pulmonary arterial pressure is measured using the pulse wave and continuous wave capabilities of the echocardiographic machine.
