The patterns of the Sun, the Moon, and the stars provided the basis for ancient calendars. Since the Sun, the Moon, and the stars have different cycles, the rules of calendar are not trivial. Different cultures have used different approaches to develop different forms of calendar to meet the practical needs of the people.
