Abstract
Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery is typically reserved for patients with obesity refractory to dietary changes and medical treatment. Current NIH guidelines suggest these qualifications for surgical weight loss procedures: BMI >35 kg/m2 with obesity-related comorbidities or BMI >40 kg/m2 without any medical conditions. This chapter describes indications, essential steps, variations, and complications of this procedure. It provides a detailed template operative note for the procedure.
