Abstract
Pancreas transplantation is performed for patients with type I diabetes mellitus. Pancreas transplant is most commonly performed as a simultaneous pancreas-kidney (SPK) transplant in diabetic patients with concurrent end-stage renal disease. Pancreas transplant alone (PTA) is indicated for patients with hypoglycemic unawareness in the absence of renal dysfunction. This chapter describes indications, essential steps, variations, and complications of this procedure. It provides a detailed template operative note for the procedure.
