Abstract
Low scar abdominoplasty with inferior positioning of the umbilicus is an excellent choice for the middle-aged, postpartum woman with excess abdominal skin and full-length diastasis recti but a normal body mass index. Floating the umbilicus allows easy access for complete rectus diastasis plication from xiphoid to pubis and allows for a low abdominal scar without a vertical component. Although it has been suggested that floating the umbilicus may compromise the end result with an abnormally low umbilical position, in the correct patient, this technique actually improves and restores the aesthetic appearance. Appropriate patient selection and technical pearls are discussed.
