From an Association to a Royal College

Abstract

An annual gathering of members has been held since the early days of the BPA. Indeed the size of the membership was for many years determined by the capacity of the dining room at the Old England Hotel in Windermere. For many members this annual getting together was their sole contact with their association/college. The founders of the BPA were adamant that one of the main purposes of getting professionals together was that of camaraderie. In Chap. 4 Andrew Wilkinson has described the first annual meeting after the formation of the College. The social events which have largely occurred at the annual meetings have been most important occasions with which to pursue this aim. Rosalind Topping who organised these meetings for over 25 years here reflects on them.
