Abstract
Schmidt discusses experiential learning opportunities in the Human Development and Family Studies program and Youth Development program at Indiana University. She describes the implementation where students encounter high-impact elements, such as diversity, building relationships through authentic connections, time spent on meaningful tasks, and academic requirements of the internship program and completion requirements through reflection and feedback as well as the decision to add a pre-internship experience in the form of service-learning to the professional preparation course. Some concluding thoughts discuss the challenges and successes of implementing these programs.
