Abstract
This chapter explains the most basic phenomena of the parasites of humans. The term parasite (Greek: parasitos) is used here exclusively for animals, which live totally or at least in a considerable percentage on costs of humans and/or animals. The basic definitions are given for key terms such as host types, host specificity, ontogenesis of parasites, alternation of generations, individual development, adaptations, immune-evasion, immune reaction, pathogenicity and basic methods of diagnosis.
