Abstract
Dr. Trisha Suppes is Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University School of Medicine and the Director of the Bipolar Disorders Research Program at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System in California, USA. She had an instrumental role in the development of guidelines for the treatment of bipolar disorder through her contribution to the Work Group for the Practice Guidelines for Bipolar Disorder of the American Psychiatric Association and the Texas Medication Algorithm Project. She also contributed to the formulation of current diagnostic criteria for this disorder included in the 5th revision of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for Mental Disorders.
