Early Life and Educational Background

Wacker was born in 1977 in the town of Kronberg im Taunus near Frankfurt, Germany. After graduating from a Catholic school (St. Lioba-Schule, Bad Nauheim, Germany), he studied psychology at the University of Marburg, Germany, where he received his diploma (M.Sc. equivalent) in psychology in 2001 after visiting Richard Davidson’s Laboratory for Affective Neuroscience at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, for a research internship in 2000. He then opted for a career in academia rather than counseling and obtained his Ph.D. (Dr. rer. nat.) in 2005 from the University of Marburg under the supervision of Gerhard Stemmler.

Professional Career

Wacker worked as a postdoctoral researcher and lecturer in Gerhard Stemmler’s group at the University of Marburg in the years 2005 through 2013.
