Lateral Sural Cutaneous Nerve Entrapment

  • Chapter
Peripheral Nerve Entrapments

Abstract

The lateral sural cutaneous nerve innervates the skin of the proximal lateral leg below the knee. It has a variable origin and course but usually branches from the common fibular (peroneal) nerve. It is a purely sensory nerve and may occasionally be injured, resulting in a neuralgia in the region. Because of its highly variable course and small size, ultrasonic and nerve stimulator techniques are essential in locating this nerve.
