Ukhtomskiy, Leonid Alekseyevich (1829–1909) – Russian Vice Admiral and Commander of Arkhangelsk Port (1871–1875). On his graduation from the Naval Corps in 1847, U. was promoted to Midshipman and sent to the Black Sea Fleet. U. participated in the Crimean War of 1853–1856. He participated directly in the defense of the besieged Sevastopol. In 1860 U. was transferred to the Baltic Fleet. Until 1866 U. was in command of various ships such as screw gunboats, steamships, and an armored boat. In 1866 U. was put in charge of Astrabad Station. During 1866–1868, U. sailed aboard the ships of the Caspian Flotilla. In 1869 U. was transferred to the Baltic Fleet and in 1871 – to the Northern Sea following an appointment of the Commander of Arkhangelsk Port. In 1875 U. became a Director of the White Sea lighthouses. In 1885 U. was appointed Director of Lighthouses and Pilot Chart of the Caspian Sea and the Commander of Baku Port. In 1889 U. was discharged in the rank of Vice Admiral.
