Poltava – an ironclad built at the New Admiralty shipyard in St.-Petersburg in 1894. P. was transferred to the Far East. During the Russo-Japanese War 1904–1905, P. participated in Port Arthur defense campaign. P. sustained a series of heavy siege gun shell hits running aground in the fortress’ internal basin. The Japanese salvaged and repaired P. commissioning her under the name Tango with displacement of 11,500 t, length of 114.5 m, width of 21.34 m, draft of 8.6 m, speed of 16 knots, crew of 650 men, and armament of 58 guns of various calibers and 6 torpedo tubes. In 1916 the ship was redeemed from Japan, renamed Chesna, and designated a ship of the line. In 1917 P. became the flagship of the Arctic Flotilla. In 1920 P. was allotted to the White Sea Flotilla. In 1924 P. was decommissioned.
