Abstract
The reverse total shoulder replacement has served as an excellent tool for patients that have historically had little to no surgical options. As we continue to gain a better understanding of the basic science and biomechanics of how the implant works, it is important to appreciate the work in this area that has been accomplished to date. This chapter is intended to serve as review of the contributions to this understanding by the researchers at the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS). As with any research, our work has been built around and complemented the efforts of many individuals at many institutions. What follows is not intended to be a comprehensive review of reverse total shoulder research, but rather our perspective which has been based on our research and experiences.
