Abstract

Disorders of the temporomandibular joint are mostly recognized by their impairment of normal jaw mobility, thus causing difficulties in chewing and mouth opening that are the result of pathologic changes in one or more of the tissues that together compose the temporomandibular joint: bone and cartilage, interarticular disc, and the lining synovial membrane. Alterations occurring at this anatomical site are classified as reactive, degenerative, inflammatory and neoplastic.
