Proof Patterns

Abstract

The notion of a classic game is defined. Chess, go, nim, and noughts and crosses are discussed as classic games and it is shown that they must terminate. An optimal strategy is presented for nim. The existence of optimal strategies for other classic games is proven. It is proven that for some classes of games including noughts and crosses that the optimal strategy will not make the second player win.
