Abstract

In this chapter, the state-of-the-art in palmprint recognition systems is described. After introducing palmprint recognition, a survey of the possible applications of palmprint recognition is presented. Then, biometric systems based on the palmprint are discussed. First, touch-based methods are reviewed. Touchless methods for palmprint recognition are then described. For both categories, methods that use two-dimensional samples and methods that use three-dimensional models are considered. The techniques used to estimate the quality of palmprint samples and their classification are reviewed. Finally, the methods used to generate synthetic palmprint samples are introduced.
