Abstract

The mining industry and processing of natural stone have traditionally occupied a place in the Algerian architecture. The few remnants of old buildings in north Algeria is just one witness. One of the high light of this study is to show the significant potential for pavement construction of Algeria, given its vast territory, Algeria has significant potential for pavement. The pavement is the set of pads used in coating. Our study focuses on a characterization of some paving deposits and ornamental stone, highlighting their specificity by a series of physical and mechanical testing. An integrated petro-physical study carried out for seven varieties of pavement, has allowed us to set the relation between their petrographical and physico-mechanical properties. This study confirms that all this seven varieties can be used in several applications.
