Abstract

Despite the important role that vaccines have played in dramatically improving public health over the last century, parental concern regarding vaccine safety and effectiveness continues to increase. Subsequently, many parents are choosing to delay certain vaccines or refuse vaccination altogether, leaving their children at increased risk for vaccine-preventable diseases. Moreover, the communities in which these children live may also be affected due to the breakdown of herd immunity.
