Swiss Confederation or Switzerland is a small state in the heart of the Alps of Western Europe (Figure 1). It has a size of 41,285 km2 (15,940 mi2) with a population of eight million and is one of the most advanced and prosperous nations with a GDP of about US$500 billion in current terms in 2012.
