Abstract
Since the late twentieth century, foreign direct investment (FDI) has been a central element of economic globalization. FDI leads to increases in domestic capital in most recipient countries, but given its impact on economic growth, its contribution to domestic capital formation may be more important than what global figures suggest.
The Vietnam analysis is updated from Omar Everleny PĂ©rez Villanueva, Foreign Direct Investment in China, Vietnam and Cuba, in Cuban Economy and Social Development: Policy Reforms and Challenges in the 21st Century, Jorge DomĂnguez, Omar Everleny PĂ©rez Villanueva, Mayra Espina Prieto, and Lorena Barberia, eds. (Cambridge: The David Rockefeller Center Series on Latin American Studies, Harvard University, 2012).
