Abstract

This is an exciting time to be a teacher. Currently, sweeping changes are under way in both the fields of education technology and mathematics education. New standards are shaping these fields, in terms of classroom practices, in profound ways. In this chapter, we:

  • Look at these two new sets of standards in relation to one another

  • Explore fruitful ways in which these standards work together

  • Suggest ways in which classroom teachers might use these together to enhance the work that they do with their students

We begin with a presentation of the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics, specifically looking at the Standards for Mathematical Practices.
