Abstract

Today’s traffic requires from the driver an increased psychophysical capability. It is therefore most important to ensure optimal observation, failure free transmission of impulses to the center of the cerebral cortex and subcortical ganglia formation of an adequate response and perfect transmission of the nerve impulse to the periphery, i.e. to stimulate adequate reactions by means of nervomuscular regulation.

Carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxides from exhaust gases are most prominent for their unfavorable, acute affects on this psychophysical system and have thus a direct influence on traffic safety.

The influence on driving capabilities of CO and NOx concentrations measured at some crossroads in Belgrade and inside cars are studied in this report.
