Als portugiesische Siedler vor 500 Jahren die seichten Gewässer der Banc d’Arguin erkundeten, trafen sie auf Hunderte von Fischern, die — mit Hilfe von Delphinen — Schwärme von Meeräschen in große, handgeknüpfte Netze trieben. Sie fanden auch Tausende von Mönchsrobben, die sich an der Küste tummelten.
