Abstract

Work is currently ranked first in the importance of life. There is no time for typical and especially ordinary pleasures. Therefore, it is crucial for people to be able to relax and enjoy their free moments. For this reason, the authors elaborated a paper presenting the further step in the design of a technical device working in the amusement industry (carousel). The carousel is a kind of amusement ride arising from the operation of a spinning platform with seats for passengers. In the paper, the authors design selected structural units of such a device through analytical and numerical methods. The first proposed unit is a gondola, adapted to the chief dimensions of passenger’s body with respect to STN EN 547–3 + A1 standard, with a maximum load capacity of 100 kg per passenger. In order to properly size the structure, all the loads acting on the structure must be computed first. The calculations in question are part of the presented paper. Subsequently, further calculations are focused on the design of the truss structure supporting the gondolas. Moreover, the calculations are verified by means of a numerical method in ANSYS software. The structural designs were based on the procedures specified in the current standard STN EN 13814 from which indispensable and interesting information concerning the design and operation of amusement devices was selected.
