Abstract

Understanding midazolam involves understanding its chemistry, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacodynamics. These are the topics where holding a clinician’s attention will be challenging. But they are the foundations that will lead to optimal clinical utilization of a drug, and the chapter emphasizes this fact. The water solubility of midazolam, its importance, the reasons for the quick onset of action along with the short duration of clinical action, the safety profile of midazolam related to its pharmacodynamics, understanding properties like amnesia and paradoxical reactions, and utilizing this understanding into clinical advantages are topics dealt within this chapter.
