Abstract

This chapter introduces the concept of Dual-Control Design. The key message of this chapter is that the design requirements for the controller and observer may not be adequately addressed during the identification phase. Thus, in contrast to the widely applied design routine in the literature, this chapter introduces the concept of deriving different TS Fuzzy models for controller and observer design to achieve better system performance and an optimal solution. This chapter posits that the selection of identification methods depends on the system, knowledge about the system, available data sets, and the expertise of the individual performing the identification. Consequently, the identification techniques result in a model with a variety of structures and mathematical apparatus. Therefore, it is highly beneficial to transform the identified model into a TS Fuzzy model with various advantageous properties. Moreover, it is recommended to derive a set of alternative TS Fuzzy models with both tight and loose convex hulls for controller and observer design.
