Abstract

Undernutrition among women is a serious public health concern in India. There is a paucity of research on the prevalence and dynamic nature of change in undernutrition among women in West Bengal. Therefore, this study attempts to fill this gap by identifying the spatial pattern of undernutrition among women in West Bengal. The present study uses a cross-sectional sample of women in the reproductive age group from the latest two rounds of the National Family Health Survey data, i.e., NFHS-4 (2015–2016) and NFHS-5 (2019–2021). The results revealed that the prevalence of undernutrition has declined in general at district levels, but few districts bear a disproportionately higher prevalence of undernutrition. So, this district-level study may serve as a catalyst for the development of directive nutritional intervention programs and their effective implementation to combat undernutrition in high prevalence districts.
