Oculoplastic, Lacrimal and Orbital Surgery

Abstract

Endoscopic surgery of the orbit is a rapidly expanding multidisciplinary field that incorporates the expertise of skilled rhinologic and orbital surgeons. The advantages of this minimally invasive technique include improved illumination and higher magnification of the surgical field, avoidance of cutaneous incisions, and avoidance of the need for retraction of the brain or globe. With current technology and expertise, much of the extra- and intraconal orbital space is amenable to a purely endonasal approach or one combined with a minimally invasive transorbital assist. This broadening experience provides surgeons with alternatives to traditional orbitotomy in the ever-challenging management of orbital tumors.
