Abstract
This chapter compiles past literature on knowledge, skills, and competences (KSC), highlighting their growing relevance for various managerial fields in the knowledge-based economy. In particular, it reports key KSC frameworks and definitions according to four main research areas: learning and education, organizational theory and human resource management, labor economics and innovation, and multi-level policymaking. Showing the growing importance of KSC in current times, this chapter proves the relevance of our research as well, highlighting how continuous innovation and escalating digitization require novel and ambidextrous skills, asking for new managerial studies on the synergy between creative and digital KSC in the creative and cultural labor force.
