Abstract

Fertility and reproductive health among American women are influenced by cultural values. This chapter examines fertility intentions and barriers to reproductive healthcare such as place, provider, and coverage for care. It also includes the lived experience of women who fear motherhood due to conflicts with personal goals, those who sustain criticism for choosing not to become mothers or experience infertility. It also discusses alternative choices for building a family beyond biological parenthood.
