Abstract
Experimental result—optical 3D-scanner, based on index matching. From an experiment with two immiscible fluids in a porous medium made of glass beads, glycerol and canola oil, on the interplay between capillary, viscous and gravitational forces. Here we see a 3D rendering of the segmented invading fluid phase, glycerol. The porous medium and the defending fluid have been removed, leaving the invading structure suspended alone. The beads used were uniform, with diameter 3 mm, the experiment was conducted in a cubic cell of 8 cm on each side, the structure we see is about 4 cm across.
