Abstract
This chapter provides the motivation and purpose of the book. Summarily, this book is an examination of emerging cultural issues in healthcare with a focus on marginalized or underserved patient populations. It also previews general content, and why culture is important in health and healthcare. The author makes the case for its importance by addressing the impact of cultural and gender bias, the need for student and workforce diversity, and relationship to efficacy in the administration of patient care. Lastly, the chapters in this book are organized in clusters to address key topics for students and practitioners utilizing this scholarship.
